1 - Installation of App on USB Drive

Description

While this tutorial focuses on using a USB device for cross-platform storage, the same process can be applied to other external storage devices, network servers, and cloud platforms. The following instructions step the user through the process of installing the App on a USB device.

At the conclusion of this process both the application and the Cabinet folder data set will reside on the selected USB device.

The user will download the setup installer from the website to the Downloads folder. Once the USB drive is inserted in the workstation the user has the option of changing the USB drive letter, suggested drive letter U: or it can be left as the default, it's user preference but in this tutorial, we will be renaming the drive letter to "U:".

  1. Insert a formatted USB device in workstation port.
    1. Formatting the USB devices file system is necessary because ‘out of the package’ when purchased the format is not adequate for encryption and fast data access. In addition, it is highly recommended that the device name is set and easily recognizable.
    2. File System Type
      1. NTFS
    3. For this tutorial the USB will have previously been formatted NTFS
      1. Recommended Volume label has been set to DEXIT_USB
        1. This name is used throughout this instruction. It is recommended that the user give the device a name that is easily recognizable.


  1. The following illustration shows that the USB drive has been given drive letter L:



  1. Navigate to https://dexit.ai Home Page


    1. Click DEMO from the page menu
    2. You will be navigated to the page: https://dexit.ai/demo
      1. Download page will appear and show the current 14-Day FREE Trial release with version, date and time of release as illustrated below



ii. Using the left mouse click < click here to download > to begin the download process

    1. The installer file will download to the default Windows Download folder
    2. Hover mouse pointer over browser   to display status of download



  1. To view the Recent download history hover over the download popup until the file folder is visible



  1. Hover and click the ”Show in folder” associated with DEXIT.exe.
    1. The folder will open and expose the installer package.
  2. Highlight and select DEXIT.exe.



  1. Drag-and-Drop “Copy” DEXIT.exe Setup Installer file from \Download folder to the USB device. In this example the drive letter is L:



  1. While the file is being copied the progress popup will appear.


  1. When complete, open the USB drive and the DEXIT.exe installer will be stored on the drive as illustrated below.



  1. Optional Step: CHANGE THE DRIVE LETTER OF THE USB
    1. Click on the Folder Name “This PC”
    2. Take Note of the drive letter assigned to the USB on YOUR workstation. Remember in our example the drive letter is (L:), however, this letter will be unique to each user installation depending on the number of drives defined.
      1. Description: Change Drive Letter of the USB – “U:” – this letter is suggested for consistency across multiple devices being that is the first letter in USB and the USB drive may be used across multiple (PC’s, Tablets, Workstations)

















  1. Open File Explorer, this will show you the Devices and drives as illustrated below.



  1. Double Click “Open” the USB Drive that contains the DEXIT.exe installer. In this illustration the drive letter is U: as indicated above.



  1. Open the DEXIT.exe application installer by double clicking with the left mouse.
  2. The User Account Control window will appear
    1. Verified publisher: Mark Overton
    2. This shows that the installer has been Digitally Signed by the author
  3. Click “Yes” to continue
  4. The ‘Welcome to the DEXIT Setup Wizard’ will start



  1. Click [ Next > ]
  2. The ‘END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT’ will appear
    1. Using the thumb image scroll down and read the agreement.
      1. The thumb image appears as a small gray block in the upper right corner of the license agreement.
    2. Once you’ve scrolled to the bottom of the file, continue with the next step.
  3. The ‘I accept the terms of the license agreement’ will enable
  4. Click the radio button to the right of the statement to accept the agreement.



  1. Click [ Next > ]
  2. The ‘Customer Information’ panel will appear
    1. This information is optional but it is suggested that the User Name be completed.




  1. Click [ Next > ]
  2. The ‘Destination Folder’ will appear and have the following default value:
    1. Install DEXIT to: C:\Program Files (x86)\DEXITAI\DEXIT
    2. Note that the installer defaults to the “C” drive, in the next step this will be changed to the drive value of the USB.
  3. Select the “C” in the path string and change it to the USB drive letter, example: “U”. Your drive letter may differ but in this tutorial we have chosen the drive letter “U:”.
    1. The install path will now appear as : U:\Program Files (x86)\DEXITAI\DEXIT
      1. In this example we used the drive letter “U” if you’ve chosen or let the drive letter default then change the drive letter to the letter you’ve chosen.




  1. Click [ Next > ]
  2. The ‘Ready to Install the Program’ window will appear.
    1. Note the Current Settings:
      1. The Destination Folder should now have the path set to the USB drive.
        1. Example: U:\Program Files (x86)\DEXITAI\DEXIT



  1. Click [ Next > ]


  1. Installing DEXIT window will appear with the installation progress
    1. DEXIT is now being installed to the USB drive with the letter designated
    2. Please wait and do not turn your computer off during this process.



  1. The ‘Setup Wizard Complete’ window will appear.



  1. Click [ Finish ]



  1. Note that the “Program Files (x86)” folder has been created on the USB drive and it contains the DEXIT Application and supporting files.
