Description
Here's what each field means:
1. Email Server: This field is where you enter the address of your SMTP server that will handle outgoing emails. This is essential as all emails must go through a valid SMTP server to be delivered successfully.
2. Email Port: This specifies the network port used to connect to the SMTP server. Common SMTP ports include 25 (standard relay), 587 (mail submission), and 465 (secure TLS).
3. Always TLS check box: When enabled, this setting ensures that the connection to the email server always uses TLS encryption from the beginning of the connection.
4. Start TLS check box: This option indicates that the connection starts normally but then switches to TLS encryption after a START TLS command is issued.
5. SSL Method radio buttons: This allows selection of the specific TLS protocol version to use: (only one can be enabled)
The default is typically TLS 1.2, 1.1, or 1.0 (in that order of preference).
6. User Name: This is the username for authenticating with the SMTP server.
7. Password: This is the password for authenticating with the SMTP server.
8. From Address: This specifies the default email address that will appear in the "From" field of sent emails. It's important that this is a valid address recognized by the server, or emails may fail to send successfully.
These settings are crucial for ensuring emails can be properly sent from the application with the appropriate security.
The TLS/SSL options in particular are important for maintaining secure email communications, as TLS is a protocol that encrypts email messages for security and privacy, preventing unauthorized access when messages are sent over internet connections.
You will need to contact your email provider i.e., GoDaddy, etc., or other provider that can give you the proper settings and/or help you enable "SMTP" on your email account.
Specifically with GoDaddy, it was necessary for me to contact them and then enable SMTP on my email account before it worked. If you need assistance contact product support.
